When is the best time of day to water your lawn and or garden?Early morning or late afternoon?

Is it better to water your lawn or garden in the morning with the rising sun or in the afternoon with the setting sun?

When is the best time of day to water your lawn and or garden?Early morning or late afternoon?
late afternoon

less water will evaporate because there will have been less sun exposure
Reply:the answer to your question would be late in the afternoon more towards the evening cuz if you water during morning or afternoon the sun will dry everything out to fast
Reply:One should always do there watering in the morning. Besides what the other gent said about bugs and such, soaking at night promotes fungal growth on most plants and grasses. The fungi look like yellow fuzz on your grass, then slowly kill it. Its not a pretty site.
Reply:either or is good.Depending on what your watering little in the morning and a little in the evening wouldn't hurt.Have a awesome day.
Reply:Definitely before 10:00 a.m.
Reply:i think early morning so the sun doesnt kill your grass throughout the day
Reply:Best time to water is in the middle of the night. If you water right after sunset, the ground still has to dissipate heat, which will evaporate some of the water.

Some flower buds close in the middleof the night also to keep moisture out.

Watering in the middle of the night also allows the water to soak in without evaporating.
Reply:early in the morning. a wet garden invites pests at night. it is best to wash the pests that gather on your crops off the leaves with water early in the morning, then allow the water to evaporate off them before nightfall.
Reply:later afternoon because the hot sun in the morning will not leave any water for the lawn
Reply:Well, there have been plenty of answers and plenty answered the way I would. Those saying to water in the evening, well on occasion it will not hurt but your regular watering should be in am. Doug and Gecko gave the reason why in their answer. You should water your lawn when it will be naturally wet from dew. If wet too long (overnight) you run the risk of contracting lawn diseases or fungi. When you water, your watering the roots not the crown (part of grass you can see).
Reply:Well they both work and I have had little problems with either. If you do it at night some say that the water on the surface and the cold night air could cause mildew in your grass, I have been watering at night for years and never have seen any evidence of this but I live in California and the weather is pretty good for the most part. If you water in the morning you want to do it early enough that it has time to burn off before it gets hot or you will burn your grass, I have seen this and it will kill the grass faster than not watering it and that is why afternoons are out of the question.
Reply:Hmm if you have the time, how about a little of both.. hehe since thereare answers for both..
Reply:Always water in the AM. The earlier the better. The water wont evaporate, and the sun will dry off the palnt leaf or grass blade

Watering in the later PM will cause moisture to stay on the palnt or grass overnight and will provide a perfect environment for Lawn/plant diseases . Now that the Summer months and Heat and Humidity are upon us, Lawn diseases will ruin many lawns.

Watering in the middle of the day wont hurt, but you tend to get more evaporation and not a deep soak , thus not getting the most from your water.

As a habit, and as a whole, AM is best.

If anyone tells you differently, they dont what they are saying.
Reply:after the sun goes down... so the water has the longest time to soke into the ground...
Reply:late afternoon
Reply:Early morning, preferably before sunrise. It gives the lawn plenty of time to absorb the water. While it can be done in the evening, the water will remain on the lawn the entire night and might not be absorbed. The same goes for other plants.
Reply:nighttime, none of the water evaporates
Reply:Morning is definitely better. If you water too late in the evening, mold and fungus is very likely to be a problem. Fungus is hard to get rid of and expensive to control.

The Lawn Maker
Reply:right after the sun goes down.
Reply:of the evening because the water has time to soke in to the ground overnight were if u water of the morning the sun will envapor the water
Reply:When I water my lawn I do it at least two hours before the sun comes up or two hours after the sun goes down.

This way the water has time to penetrate the soil to the roots before or after the heat of the day can evaporate it.

G'day
Reply:early morning but both are ok
Reply:I thought it was both. But if I had a preference I'd say morning.
