How and what soil do vines grow best in? Vines like Snail and Bank Rose?

I am making planters for Snail Vines and Bank Rose Vines but not sure what type of soil should be used. I have garden soil and compost. Will that be good enough? And how should they be put in the soil - tightly pack soil or lose?

How and what soil do vines grow best in? Vines like Snail and Bank Rose?
VIGNA caracalla, Snail Vine. Latin for the vine that crawls. A tropical AMERICAN native that is often mistaken for a pole bean. ( fact is vines don't grow in the ground, they creep along on top. little garden humor, tee hee.) fragrant, cream to pale purple, with twisted keel petals that are coiled like a snail shell. quickly to 2o feet, good summer screen or bank cover in frost free areas. Fact that it is tropical should give a hint of soil and it's needs.

Bank rose is another story. lots being sold by that name, few deserve to use the word "rose" in their title. most grow unevenly, are patchy in coverage (allowing for lots of weed growth here and there. but as you plan to grow them in pots, they'll do okay. your planned soil mix should work well for you. when potting then, plant then "firmly". not to tightly planted though. should look cool together. good luck.
