A rose garden is an isosceles triangle with a perimeter of 125 yards. The shortest side is 35 yards long...?

How long are each of the other sides?

I can't figure it out because:

The sum of the two other angles should equal the hypoteneuse..and with an isosceles, two sides should be equal. Following these rules, the two other sides should equal 35 yds. and 55 yds. ...however 35+35+50 does not equal 125 yards. It would be impossible for the hypoteneuse and a side to be equal to one another because the sum of the two sides could not possibly equal the hypoteneuse.

I'm stuck! :\

A rose garden is an isosceles triangle with a perimeter of 125 yards. The shortest side is 35 yards long...?
An isoscelese triangle has two equal sides. The perimeter is 125 yards and the shortest side is 35 yards, so the other two sides are both 45 yards long.
Reply:This statement - "The sum of the two other angles should equal the hypoteneuse" - isn't accurate. The only given information you have is that two sides of this triangle are the same.

There are actually two solutions here:

35, 35, 55 = 125

35, 45, 45 = 125

I'd think the second is more likely to be the one you're looking for, because in the first case they probably would have said the "shortest sides are" instead of "shortest side is"...
Reply:35 , 55 yards =%26gt; 35 + 35 + 55 = 125 yards

45 , 45 yards =%26gt; 45 + 45 + 35 = 125 yards
Reply:Perimeter (of the isosceles triangle) = 125 yds

Perimeter (of the isosceles triangle) = 2x + y

y (the shortest side) = 35 yd

125 yds = 2x + 35 yd

125 yds - 35 yds = 2x

90 yds = 2x

x = 90 yds/2

x = 45 yds

Each equal side is 45 yds long

When you say:

"The sum of the two other angles should equal the hypoteneuse"

It's impossible because angles only can be add with angles son you can't obtain a lineal number (because angles are expressed in ยบ)

Then you say

"..and with an isosceles (triangle of course), two sides should be equal"

You are right!

Then

"It would be impossible for the hypoteneuse and a side to be equal to one another because the sum of the two sides could not possibly equal the hypoteneuse"

You are right again!

¿Do you understand now the mistake?

Good luck!
